How to Track Insider Activity

Insiders' trades (Form 4), what insiders held when they became insiders (Form 3), and what institutional managers hold each quarter (13F). The examples use NVIDIA and Berkshire Hathaway.

#Recent trades at one company

The list action of Insider transactions (Form 4) returns a company's filings with their transactions, newest first. transaction_code keeps the codes you list, such as S for open market or private sales; the types action lists every code.

{"action": "list", "ticker": "NVDA", "transaction_code": ["S"], "page_size": 5}

#Totals over a period

The stats action adds up a company's or an insider's trades over a date window, with the ids of every transaction counted.

{"action": "stats", "ticker": "NVDA", "start_date": "2026-01-01"}

#One insider

The insiders action lists everyone who filed for the company, one row per CIK; pass a CIK as insider_cik to follow that person.

{"action": "insiders", "ticker": "NVDA", "relationship": ["ever_officer"]}
{"action": "list", "insider_cik": "0001197649", "page_size": 5}

#Starting positions

Initial holdings (Form 3) shows what insiders report holding when they become insiders; no_securities_owned is true when the filer reported holding nothing.

{"action": "list", "ticker": "NVDA", "page_size": 5}

#Fund holdings

Institutional managers report what they hold each quarter on Form 13F. Find a manager's CIK with the managers action of Institutional holdings (13F), then read a quarter with portfolio; activity keeps rows by what changed, such as NEW positions.

{"action": "portfolio", "cik": "1067983", "quarter": "2025Q4", "type": "positions", "activity": ["NEW"]}
